Techniques To Train Your Dog
There are several different techniques to train your dog, but a simple training technique is always preferred. Your training starts the minute you bring your puppy home. There are some basic commands that you need to teach your puppy starting with teaching your puppy to do his business outside.
The key to training your dog is positive reinforcement, which should include praise, reward, and a combination of both. Never use negative reinforcement to teach your dog. Your puppy may respond the way you want but it will be out of fear rather than out of love and wanting to.
You should also always set your puppy up for success. For example when it comes to potty training, take your puppy outside when he wakes up, right after eating, before bedtime, and every hour throughout the day. Whether he does his business or not he needs positive reinforcement. If he has an accident inside don't yell. You need to take him outside immediately. It won't be long before your puppy is housebroken.
Training your puppy is not a big secret, but the best technique to train your dog will begin with patience. It's a great way for you and your dog to learn to understand each other and to build a relationship built on trust and respect.
Other basic commands that you will want to start early are sit, down, and stay. The same basic principle is used. For example, to teach your dog to sit, say the command while gently pushing on his backside. When he reaches the sit position, praise him with an excited good boy followed by a treat. You can use an excited voice when praising which your puppy will associate with good.
Once the basics are mastered, you can begin working on other commands by using the same techniques to train your dog. You can also start to teach tricks like shake a paw.
The best techniques to train your dog always use positive reinforcement so there is never a reason for the dog to challenge you and attempt to dominate over you. With these techniques, it will be no time at all before your dog becomes a well-mannered member of your family.
